Ly Son is a pristine island, lying in the middle of the sea in Quang Ngai province. It was formerly known as Re Island, according to the people of this island it has such a name because in this island there are many Re trees. It is also known as the Garlic Kingdom of Viet Nam and it is full of ancient temples, beautiful mountains, and beaches. Ly Son is the only island of Quang Ngai province, located in the north-east, far from about 24km of the land.
How to get there!
To go to Ly Son Island, first you need to reach Sa Ky port, it is the only way to get to the island. Going by plane is the fastest and the most comfortable way. The nearest airport to Sa Ky port to Ly Son Island is Chu Lai Airport (Quang Ngai). Everyweek from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city have three flights to Chu Lai Airport, round-trip fare is around 3 – 3,5 million VND (this depends on the time and airline that you choose).

From Chu Lai airport, you can grab a taxi, it will cost you about 330,000 VND ( about 20km).  Or to save money you can choose to move by bus number 03 from Quang Ngai bus station to Sa Ky port. Note that if you travel by bus, you need to go before 5 am, because if you are late, you will not have enough time to board the boat to Ly Son Island (it takes about 1 hour to Sa Ky port)

Every day from Sa Ky port to Ly Son, there is only one highway entering and leaving the island. Departure from 7:30 am to 8:00 am. The tickets are sold at 6:30 am, with a maximum of 2 tickets per person and you have to register your ID. The price of one ticket is 230,000 VND.

Ly Son Hotel is the largest hotel on the island, a double room cost 500,000 VND.
In addition, you can also choose the Guest house in Vietnamese “nhà nghỉ” ( a room cost 200,000-300,000 VND ), so if you see this combination of words, don’t hesitate to ask for the room. On weekends all rooms can be busy, so better to book in advance or try to avoid weekend days include Friday.

Where to go in Ly Son Island

There are 2 beautiful islands in Ly Son, the first one is called Big island, the other is Small island. Despite its size, Small Island has a beautiful pristine beach with smooth white sand, clear sea water, surrounded by high cliffs of arches with white foam waves. From Big Island you can travel by boat to Little Island.

Ly Son Island is famous for ancient pagodas, temples and shrines. Such as Pagoda Chua Hang, located in a large cave in the Thoi Loi mountain range. The cave is lava-colored, the cliff faces up to 20m high. And pagoda Dinh Liem Tu, where you can climb the mountain and make great photos pagoda and sea, fairly new church Ding Ly Hai. Ly Son Island is also famous for Thoi Loi peak, from which visitors can see a panorama of the brilliant beauty of the island, with blue sea and skies, green fields of garlic, and dark brown architecture. Thoi Loi peak is a remnant of a volcano that has been turned off. The peak is 149m above sea level. At the top of the mountain is a freshwater lake, with a volume of about 30,000 m3, providing fresh water for Ly Son Island.
